a thermometer photography The weather of January reinforces fears of global warming. The world temperatures recorded in January ever highest were noted at this period of the year, announced to Friday the scientists of the oceanic and atmospheric American Administration.

“At the same time terrestrial world temperatures and on the surface of the oceans highest were recorded for one January”, specifies the NOAA in an official statement, quoting scientists of its Center of global data.

The world temperatures, at the same time terrestrial and oceanic, were January 0,85 degree Celsius above the average of the 20th century, according to preliminary data's, and thus exceeded the record established in 2002 (0,71°C above the average). In particular, the terrestrial temperatures were 1,89°C above their average in January, a level record.

El Nino and warming

The oceanic temperatures were the hotter fourth ever recorded in 128 years, that is to say 0,1°C in lower part of the record established in 1998, with most extremely of the El Nino phenomenon. “The presence of El Nino as well as the tendency continues with the global warming” contributed to make the hottest January 2007 ever known, explains the NOAA in its official statement.

These abnormally high temperatures also generated the falls of snow the weaker second on the continent eurasiatic. “During the century spent, the world temperatures on the surface progressed at intervals of 0,06°C every ten years, but the rate of increase was three times higher since 1976, either 0,18°C every ten years, with some of the strongest increases in temperatures occurred in the high latitudes of the northern hemisphere”, or close to the North Pole, added the NOAA.

In Switzerland too

Switzerland does not escape the tendency. The meteorologists had never recorded such soft temperatures for January since 1864. Records were recorded in Basle with a monthly average of 6,1 degrees, in Bern with 4 degrees, Zurich with 4,8 degrees and Lugano with 6,4 degrees.

The 18 and January 19, at the time of the passage of the Kyrill storm carrying heat, the temperatures average day labourers were similar to those which Switzerland in general knows at at the end of April and at the beginning of May.
